The Dark Side of the Moon commence et se termine par un battement de cœur. Entre les deux, Pink Floyd explore le temps, l’argent, la peur, la folie et la mort comme les différentes étapes d’une même expérience humaine. Le groupe utilise des horloges enregistrées séparément, des boucles de bandes, des synthétiseurs et des témoignages recueillis dans les studios Abbey Road. Les chansons s’enchaînent presque sans interruption, donnant l’impression d’un seul voyage. Le battement final rejoint la phrase : « Il n’y a pas de côté obscur de la Lune, en réalité elle est toute sombre. » L’album devient un monde fermé sur lui-même.
The Dark Side of the Moon begins and ends with a heartbeat. Between those moments, Pink Floyd explores time, money, fear, madness and death as parts of one human experience. The band used separately recorded clocks, tape loops, synthesizers and spoken responses gathered at Abbey Road Studios. The songs flow with almost no interruption, creating the feeling of a single journey. The final heartbeat accompanies the line: “There is no dark side in the moon, really. Matter of fact, it’s all dark.” The album became a self-contained world, designed to bring the listener back to the point where it began.
